Phuket to Koh Samui in One Day

Motorcycle touring to Koh Samui is easy, and it doesn’t have to be boring. Phuket is linked to the mainland by a bridge, and ferry services run frequent hourly ferries from Donsak pier. Motorcycle space on ferry are also not something that needs to be reserved in advance, as cars do, especially during the peak season, need to be booked several days in advance.

The GPS navigation may take you along the most direct path, but for some people it can be quite boring. It is advisable to veer off the main road to make the journey more exciting and to reveal places that are not so easy to find. There are few variations that you can follow on this route. In this article, you will find one day itinerary for Koh Samui so that your trip is not only short but also interesting. 🏍️🌴

Escape from Phuket

From Phuket it can take longer to leave than it does to arrive.** It can take up to 2.5 hours to leave the island**, depending on the season, time of day, location and type of motorcycle (including side cases). It is advisable to leave for island early in the morning and to go through the Thalang area before 8:00. The optimal departure times are:

  • From the south of the island – approximately 6:45
  • From Patong and further north – approximately 7:00
  • If you are already north of Thalang, there should be no traffic.

The worst traffic jams are between 7:30 and 11:00 and from 15:00 to 20:00. Even with the ongoing road expansions, there are still many 'bottlenecks' in Phuket where it can be easily stuck in a big jam. To make sure you avoid frustration and enjoy a smooth ride towards Koh Samui, plan your departure at the right time. 🏍️
